A record number of Texas A&M student-athletes, 335, were recognized for making the AD Honor Roll for achieving a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in the fall of 2016. The overall number is a new record and marks the third semester in a row to establish a higher mark.
“I am extremely proud of the bright and talented young people who play intercollegiate athletics at Texas A&M,” Aggie Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said. “They are competitive in their respective areas of competition and compete just as hard in the classroom. I am encouraged they keep setting the bar higher.”
Of those 335 student-athletes, 57 earned a perfect 4.0 while 157 earned a 3.5 or better.
Nine of the Texas A&M athletics programs earned a team GPA of 3.0 or better with the women’s tennis team taking top honors with a mark of 3.47 and the group also had the highest graduation rate with 100 percent. The top men’s team was men’s basketball with a 3.19.
Of the athletics sports programs, 13 saw an increased graduation success rate with 10 of the programs earning an 86 percent rate or higher.
Most importantly, 33 Aggie student-athletes earned their degrees from Texas A&M at December commencement.
